Patent Depth & Breadth through Detailed Disclosure

A patent is an official, governmental affirmation of your intellectual property territory. But in the patent landscape you can only attempt to claim, as your territory, what your patent application describes as your territory.

I specialize in drafting patent applications for complex technologies. (Of course, also more simplistic technologies as well!) A single inventive concept can entailin terms of real-world application/designa fabric of numerous, interwoven elements.

When drafting an application, my twin goals are details and depth: Multiple embodiments; details of structural elements, processing modules, and functional/structural interconnections; full expositions of methods; and all that is supported with extensive illustration.

An engaging patent narrative provides a story-telling view of your invention. Novelty/non-obviousness emerge from clearly explainly/illustrating why your invention is needed; and further from enumerating many of the specific elements that underscore how/why your invention is an improvement over anything else around.

Benefits of Thorough Patent Drafting

If a thousand trees grow in your forest, but your patent application only presents a sketch of a dozen trees then likely, you can only claim as your territory your back yard, but not your forest!

A
patent application need not disclose/illustrate every single one of your thousand trees. But multiple views of different clusters of dozens of trees, and views from multiple angles, makes for a far more persuasive case that you have planted a forest.

Fewer rounds of prosecution in the application process

Foundations for broad claims in those instances when there are only limited prior references against your application

Foundations for viable amendments, and claims retaining significant scope, even in the face of relevant prior references

Stronger foundations for success in potential post-grant review or litigation

Sustainable and transaction-worthy IP protection
